Hey there, been a while. I honestly really haven’t been in the mood to write recently, and I’m sure no one actually reads this, so I’m pretty much just doing it for myself. What to talk about. How bout a life update. Hah. Lets see…I’m working for the Census for a couple weeks, it’s pretty easy for what it pays, which is nice. Pretty much just walk around asking the houses that didn’t complete the survey the questions that are on the survey. Easy enough. It’s been getting warm out, which is nice. I enjoy the warm months much more than the colder ones. Emily and I are still chugging along. We’ve had to deal with some issues recently, none of which I’m going to get into here. What can you do. I guess I’m just annoyed, and maybe a little bit pissed. I guess those are really the only times I get into the mood to write here. It’s good to have an arena to just throw things at the wall and see what sticks. Emily moved home today, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, it will be nice to see her a lot more. On the other hand, with everything that has been going on, I guess I’m just unsure of a lot of things at this point. I think I expected today to be a better day, so overall I’m feeling a bit let down. I just thought things would be different, and they were different, but not in a good way. It’s really hot in my room, and that could be contributing to how annoyed I am right now, who knows. I don’t really know what I’m looking forward to anymore. I guess I need to do some re-evaluating sometime soon. There are a hell of a lot of I’s in this post. But hey, I guess this blog is about me. Blah. I’m really bored in general these days. Not really sure what to do with myself. Whatevs. I don’t really feel like doing this anymore, and so that concludes today’s entry.

I feel like it’s 2008. Here I sit in an MSU lecture hall, dropping on on Emily’s IAH class. This is strange considering I graduated over a year ago. And here we go, about to do a Haitian Chant. Yes! Anywho. I hadn’t realized that it had been almost a month since I updated. 2010 is 20 days strong, and I must say it’s been a pretty great 20 days. In all honesty, I don’t know that there has been a happier time in my life, ever. Things are going pretty great right now. I don’t really even know what to say. I’m really glad I’ve gotten to hang out with Dan, Scott, and the like lately. Must say I missed the guys. Dan and I went to Rally’s for lunch today. Terrible idea. I feel like I need to throw up and/or take a long nap. Jersey Shore is comedic gold. Just wanted to throw that out there. Ok, I’m bored with this. Bye.

So apparently a decade ends tonight. That felt strange to type. Having entered the 2000′s at age 13, leaving them at age 23, it’s safe to say that this decade will be the one that contained the most “growing up.” Although I don’t know that I’ll ever truly “grow up” its food for thought if nothing else. I distinctly remember ringing in the year 2000 at my Aunt Connie’s house, wearing those stupid ass 2000 glasses, and a North Carolina football jersey, thinking it was cool that my mom let me have a single shot of peach schnapps or something for New Years. Tonight I will be attending the Red Wing’s game with Emily, and perhaps having a drink or two after the game. It’s crazy to think about everything that has happened between these two nights. Definitely some life defining moments as well as lessons. Of course, its impossible to list all the significant things that have happened to me over the past ten years. I have earned a high school diploma as well as a college degree, I have lived in 2 states, 3 homes. I’ve experienced the highest of highs and lowest of lows, at least as those phrases pertain to my life.

It’s wild to think about friends gained and lost this decade, as well as family that has passed, r.i.p. Grandma and Aunt Carrie. All of the lives that have been touched or touched my own over the past 10 years is quite astonishing. The end of the year always provides for a time of reflection on the events of the past calendar year, the end of a decade even more so. Personal triumphs, regrets, and memories.

Strange to think that after all this, these past 10 years, I still don’t know exactly where I stand with a lot of things. For example, I imagine that 13 year old me would expect that by age 23 I would know what I wanted to do with my life. As far as this is concerned, I sometimes feel as if some aspects of life are passing me by. What I need to do and what I actually accomplish are very rarely identical. Yes, I have only been out of college for a year, and yes I spent 6 months of that year with an actual “career building” job, but obviously that venture failed, and now I’m exactly where I was a year ago in regards to employment. I can hear Dan in my ear telling me I need to write a book. Facing facts, I need to write….something….anything productive. It really doesn’t matter what it is anymore as long as its good, and no doubt it will be. Sidebar: the album “Swoon” by the Silversun Pickups is absolute genius, and I’m not even talking about the lyrics, because I don’t know half of them, just the sound is incredible to just sit and listen to, as I am now. This album almost brings me to tears. I digress.

Moving on, at this point I do believe I have one aspect of life locked down. I honestly cannot remember a time in my life, this decade, or the previous 13 years, where I have been happier. Sure there are setbacks to my current happiness, my mom’s recent surgical procedure being one of them, but as a whole, all things considered, I have never been happier. Really I cannot even describe it, but I can try. It’s really special knowing that it’s possible for someone to care about you as much as you care about them. I never thought I would see the day when I could simply lay with another and look into their eyes and be perfectly content doing this for an extended period of time. It’s really a phenomenal feeling.

The Story So Far

Good morning internet. It’s 10:30 in the morning, and if you know me, you know that if I’m up at this time something is very wrong, or very very right. Thankfully, its the latter. First of all I’d like to apologize for my 8 day absence. Read: I am not sorry for this hiatus, I do however apologize. Anywho, onto whats on my mind. Note that I’m writing this more for myself, for memories sake, than anything else, so if you don’t really feel like reading about the sap that dwells inside of me, you can disregard this post.

I vaguely recall learning about the Great Awakening back in middle school social studies. Forgive me, for I do not remember the details of whatever this movement was, however I feel the title is appropriate to what I’m feeling right now.

My life for the past couple months has been relatively happy. I’ve really had nothing to complain about, aside from the whole WLAJ situation…..yeah….I mean I always try to enjoy myself with whatever it is I’m doing, because if you aren’t enjoying yourself then whats the point right?

Onto this awakening. By pure chance, I happened to comment on the Facebook status of what I would call barely a friend from high school. She had stated that she was “stuck in a rut.” and I had asked if she needed a hand out. From there we began facebook chatting etc. and determined that we needed to hang out.

When a friend of hers was unable to make it to an MSU hockey game, she invited me and I obliged. I don’t know what it was, but somehow I knew. after the game we went to her apartment, and she watched the remainder of the Notre Dame-Pitt football game with me. Yes, you just read that correctly, she watched Notre Dame with me. Most of the time my mom won’t even do that. We then played scrabble, she won with a 42 or 48 point play of “heavy” I don’t remember how many points, I just remember crushing defeat. After the scrabble game I went on my way.

The following week we continued chatting on facebook, all the while I was of course over analyzing literally every word. At this point I was probably my most vulnerable, considering how much I already liked her. It was on Tuesday that she offered to make me dinner on Thursday. I was pretty excited about this, and contemplated this being the time I made my move.

Thursday arrived, I picked her up from class, she had apparently been chopping wood prior to class, because she was wearing a flannel shirt and looked like a lumberjack, but its ok, because the shirt had a nice sewn pattern by the buttons…..anyways. We start watching “The Holiday” which is an alright movie, she made spaghetti, which was very good. Her friend Jonny was coming over at 7, and I thought that my time was running short. Thankfully, her roommate Amy had invited me to stay while Jonny came over to play a few euchre games. Jonny and I won the first two games in dominating fashion, so we switched teams, myself and Amy on a squad, and her and Jonny. Amy and I won the next game, and she and Jonny took the final contest. Jonny then left, as he had to work later in the evening. Her and I retired to her room where we laid and talked for about 3 hours. Read: laid and talked. Thats all folks, don’t make assumptions.

At this point I was 100% certain. From what I’m told she was pretty sure as well. I knew I had to see her again before the end of the weekend, so we had planned to meet up Saturday after the MSU/Penn State game. Friday happens. The game happens. After the game I meet her at her apartment. We planned to watch “He’s Just Not That Into You.” I had been wanting to see it, so that worked. At the beginning of the movie, I made a comment about her not wanting to sit next to a North Carolina fan, so she moved closer. A little later I poked fun at her, and she moved away. I proceeded to pick her up and set her next to me, cuddling ensued. The movie was pretty solid, I enjoyed it. I don’t remember at what point I went in for the first kiss, but I think it was post movie. I’m not too sure. All I know is that it was pretty magical, at least for me. I think she will agree. At that point, well yeah, all I can say is that I’m really looking forward to the present and future.

A letter from Josh to the First Corinthians,

Dear Corinthians,

How’s it going (I can only assume you to be) fellas? You may or may not be wondering what I’ve been up to the past fortnight, or in this case 5 days. I experienced my first college hockey game last Saturday with Emily, and had a very good time. MSU put it to those who come from Ann Arbor, 2-0. Notre Dame lost, and I didn’t almost cry. Progress, friends, progress. Then I was defeated in a game a Scrabble, this time I did almost cry.

A sub-leaser has been found for my apartment. I’m not sure how I feel about this situation. Granted, I’m happy I don’t have to shell out the $350 a month, but at the same time, E.L. has been my home for the past…roughly 5 years, sans that 3 month time period between graduation and getting hired at the station. After this school year is over, I’m not really sure how much I have left here anymore anyways.

Breaking news here, I’m literally watching Charlie Weis’ press conference on SportsCenter right now. This is difficult to watch, and I honestly feel bad for the guy. I’ve been a Weis’ supporter since the hire, and despite his winning percentage being the same as Ty Willingham’s, I honestly believe he has been a much better coach, and if Chuck doesn’t come back next season, he has left plenty of talent in the program for the next coach, unlike his predecessor.

Slippery slope for UCLA, losing to Cal St. Fullerton last night. That said, college basketball season is upon us. This will be a much different North Carolina team then the one I saw win the National Championship at Ford Field last season. This group does however have the same potential as the young Tar Heel squad that my dad and I drove to Dayton to see lose to George Mason in 2005. Am I saying they will win it all in 4 years? No. Am I saying they could make the Final Four THIS year? Yes. I guess that makes them better than that 2005 team. It’s just a little strange not to see the likes of Psycho T, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington and Danny Green suiting up in the Tar Heel Blue this season. I feel like I did a lot of growing up watching them play the past 4, and in Wayne and Ty’s case 3 years.

Why Hello…

Hi there internet. How’ve I been, you may ask. I’ve been pretty good. I haven’t had much of a social life the past 2 days aside from my Xbox Live friends after the release of the greatest video game of all time..Modern Warfare 2. This game is ridiculous. My only complaint is the way some people play online, but that will be solved by tactics. College basketball season has started. Carolina has won their first two games, which were against inferior opponents. The big test comes Dec. 1st in Chapel Hill vs. MSU. Should be a good game. Well I’m pretty tired right now, so I’m going to hit the hay, but check out this new Timbaland/Drake track “Say Something Real” I can’t stop listening to this one, really enjoy it.

Fresh Start

As some of you may or may not know, I formerly had a blog which went untended to for a while, so I decided I would create a new venue to share the trials and tribulations of my life. There are no guarantees as to how often I update this, but I will try harder than I did before. This past week a few things have happened to me to make me realize that I need a new start, not only in the blog community, but in my personal life, so here’s to that working out. The title of this is based on a Jimmy Eat World song, probably my favorite band, and how I’m feeling about life right about now.

Where am I at in life right about now you may ask? Well, roughly a month ago, myself and the vast majority of my co-workers were laid off. I’m not sure that I’m legally allowed to discuss that, but if you know me at all, you probably know the d’-tails. I’m back and forth between my apartment in Lansing and my parents house in Macomb, which is nice, makes things interesting. I was crushed for the third time this season by Notre Dame football, just yesterday in fact. Of all the teams I am a fan of, I think Notre Dame football takes the top spot. I’ve recently cut a few strings loose finally in my life, well namely one string, and its far past due.

In this blog you will probably find many pop culture references, sports talk, slang terms, a lot of my personality showing through (I hope). I don’t expect to have many readers, but just know that you’re in elite company. I’m also going to try and leave each post with a song that encapsulates how I’m feeling at the moment.
